White Castle Celebrates 50 Years Of Hot Tasty Buns In Evendale

Thursday, June 19, 2014

White Castle’s commitment to quality is so complete that the family-owned business bakes its own signature buns right here in the Cincinnati area. The grilled-on-a-bed-of-onions Original Slider would not be as craveable without its signature bun that’s been baked at the Evendale bakery for 50 years. White Castle is celebrating five decades in Evendale (3126 Exon Ave.) on Wednesday, June 25, 2014, with a visit from the Crave Mobile food truck, which will be serving its famous Sliders to all of those in attendance from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. “White Castle is proud to be a part of the Evendale community – it’s a town with great taste and a neighborhood we love,” said Jamie Richardson, White Castle vice president. “In 2012 we underwent a significant expansion and enhancement to the bakery to increase the production of buns so we can continue to keep up with the coast-to-coast demand of our Sliders.” The Evendale bakery produces over 500,000 buns each week and has delivered nearly 10 billion buns in its 50 years. That’s enough buns to circumnavigate the globe 12 ½ times. White Castle sells more than 500 million Sliders per year at its restaurants and from the frozen food aisles in grocery stores, movie theaters and vending machines across the country. “I have a great amount of respect and admiration for the team members in the Evendale bakery,” said Dave Rife, White Castle vice president. “They make the job look easy. I know firsthand it’s not that easy after I gave it a try five years ago on Undercover Boss.” The Evendale bakery employs 60 team members. In keeping with White Castle’s legendary loyalty, 30 team members have been with White Castle 10 years or more. This year marks 80 years since White Castle moved its home office to Columbus and became an Ohio-based company. White Castle first opened in Wichita, Kansas, in 1921. Founder Billy Ingram moved the company’s home office to Columbus in 1934.
